FROM THE SISTERHOOD

It’s never too late to join Sisterhood! There are so many exciting plans in the works right now for two of our biggest events. Check out the flyer for the upcoming Sisterhood Shabbat on January 24, 2009. It is so exciting to me when our Sisterhood members step up to challenge themselves to learn new things. I know Sisterhood Shabbat is only weeks away but I still have some parts left for anyone wishing to learn something new. If you want to stick within your comfort zone there are always some English parts and non-speaking parts that need to be filled in. I am available to help anyone who would like to challenge themself. On Sunday mornings between now and the Shabbat morning of the service I can be at the Temple to work with you and study with you. Please contact me through phone or e-mail to make these arrangements. I look forward to your volunteering.

Donor Dinner is just around the corner. Lots of things are happening this year. I want to thank the wonderful women who came to the first planning meeting and volunteered to chair or serve on a committee. I’ve already heard some preliminary plans and I must say….the food part is sounding delish!

This month you will be getting a Save the Date in the mail for Tuesday night May 5, 2009. We will also be mailing to the congregation a letter to honor and remember the Jewels of Temple Beth Emunah. It is a way of recognizing the people who are most dear to us while supporting the Sisterhood at the same time. The Jewels will be posted in both the April Bulletin as well as the program book for the Donor Dinner.

Several people have asked me what exactly is Donor Dinner and how did it get that name? For those inquiring minds I thought I would take a few minutes to answer….

Donor Dinner is just that: A Dinner to recognize the members of the Sisterhood and the community that have made a special Donation to TBE Sisterhood for the year. It is our biggest fundraiser of the year and yes, it is a little costly to attend. We thank you by asking you to come for the evening to enjoy the company, the entertainment and be recognized as a donor. You need to pay for your meal because otherwise we would not make much money, and it is at this time that you also need to make your yearly donation. When you receive your invitation late February you will note that the reply has a space for your covert to cover your meal plus a request for an additional donation. This donation is what makes you a donor. We understand the economy has affected everyone this year so we are looking to keep the meal and donations starting at a minimal level and we hope you will give what you find you are capable. Please let me know if there are any other questions as we continue this process. Although I would like everyone to feel comfortable attending this event I do need to stress that this is in fact a fundraiser and it will set our budget for programming and Temple donations for the upcoming year.

Keep watching your e-mails and the Temple bulletin for more exciting speakers and programs throughout the year. If there is something specific you would like to see us do feel free to e-mail ( jamlrise@comcast.net ) or call me 508-361-0933 (cell phone). I would love to speak with each of you.
